ABOUT

RICHARD
WELCH

Born and raised in Warrensburg MO, I am a UCM University High School graduate. I moved away from Warrensburg to attend college, I studied Hotel and Restaurant Management, graduating with a BS Degree from Purdue University in 1978. I earned my way through college working as a Shift Manager at a large McDonald’s located on the Purdue campus.

As a young adult, I struggled with some personal problems and I saw a Clinical Social Worker in Houston, Texas who helped me, and got me interested in a career in Clinical Social Work. Consequently, I received my Master’s in Social Work Degree in 1985 from the University of Houston.

After graduation, I moved to California where I was employed as a Psychiatric Social Worker at Patton State Hospital. Later, I worked for Riverside County California Department of Mental Health in their psychiatric emergency room and inpatient hospital.

Moving back to be closer to my family, I accepted a job at Wyandot Mental Health as a Program Manager/Court Liaison. In 2000, I accepted a position as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker at the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg. In 2006, I was promoted to Assistant Administrator. I retired from there in 2013 and chose to go back to providing clinical social work.

I spent several years contracting with MidAmeriCare Psychological Services to provided psychotherapy services at nine area nursing homes. I enjoy working with the elderly and continue to do this as was allowed by the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Today, I live in Lee’s Summit MO with my dog, Bella.

I feel that my broad work and life experiences uniquely qualifies me to relate to and help others. Using evidence-based techniques, my goal is to help you better understand yourself, feel happier and more fulfilled. Please call me to schedule an appointment.
